Broward schools try to remove fear factor for freshmen

August 22, 2007 · 1 Comment

Who: High School freshmen

What: Of the 21,000 freshmen that entered Broward County high schools this year, 2,400 are expected to drop out; so the school board is implementing new programs to improve their experience and inspire their high school graduation.

When: This academic school year

Where: Broward County

Why: Because of the bad experiences or the lack of information they usually go through in their first year of high school.

How: By adding more programs to the 9th Grade curriculum such as orientations, “high school survival” classes and high school majors.

Because of the increase in High School drop-outs within High School freshmen, Broward County has created new classes such as orientations and high school majors to augment the percent of graduating students.
